Taking up the slack

In partnership with SA’s top medical aesthetic companies

You can prevent and eliminate loose, saggy or crepey skin, and maintain the good results.

What causes skin laxity?

We covered this extensively in our previous feature, and it’s worthwhile finding out what applies to you. But whatever the cause, our aim is to prevent skin becoming saggy and less firm with preventive action.

If your skin is already showing signs of the above, it’s really not too late to reverse at least some of this loss of elasticity. And afterwards you need to focus on maintaining the elasticity you’ve regained. This is how you do it…

Preventive care

Taking preventive measures is always the preferred option to combat signs of ageing, which means starting rejuvenation treatments well in advance.

In our late 30s, our skin’s ability to renew itself as it did when we were younger starts to decline. We start seeing the first signs of ageing, and our skin may not feel quite as firm and bouncy as it used to.

From your mid 30s onwards, we recommend that you start using powerful corrective treatments and topical therapies (for example, skin creams) that contain growth factors in order to improve your skin’s collagen content. Body Renewal’s choice of medical aesthetic product brands for lax skin rejuvenation are: Lamelle’s Dermaheal range with growth factors, and Neostrata’s Skin Active range.

Reversing laxity

If your skin is already showing loss of firmness and crepiness, there is still a lot you can do to substantially improve the situation. Body Renewal’s highly professional team, led by a medical doctor, assesses every patient individually and design an appropriate combination treatment together with a long-term maintenance programme. You’re provided with a fully customised solution that is best suited to your needs, based on your expectations, budget, time and medical conditions.

The treatment course will involve Carboxytherapy plus one of a selection of radio frequency and/or laser treatments:

Carbon Dioxide Therapy or Carboxytherapy is one of the biggest beauty breakthroughs since injectable wrinkle fillers. It involves injecting tiny amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) beneath the skin to break down fatty deposits and stimulate collagen production.

Carboxytherapy is rapidly becoming a leading skin rejuvenation treatment globally, and it is a safe, minimally invasive, clinically proven method to rejuvenate, restore, and recondition the skin and treat wrinkles, laxity, cellulite and stretch marks – and there’s no downtime.

The radio frequency treatments that help to maintain skin firmness are: Exilis Elite, Accent, Velashape, Velasmooth and Titania for  Skin Tightening.
Other options include laser therapy such as Laser Genesis and Titan by Cutera. (http://www.bodyrenewal.co.za/laser-genesis-rejuvenation) and Dermapen (similar to dermaroller, which helps active ingredients to penetrate the skin efficiently).

Maintenance programme

Once your treatment course is completed, it’s recommended you undergo a maintenance treatment once a month, six-weekly or two-monthly (depending on your skin condition) of Carboxytherapy and one of the radio frequency treatments mentioned above.
